TheShift-Therapy-FalseBeliefs

Something terrible is going to happen.

I'm not good enough.

I can't control my anxiety.
If I make a mistake, everyone will judge me.

I have to avoid the things that make me anxious.

I'm the only one who feels this way.

My anxiety defines who I am.

I can't control my anxiety.

This belief can make going to school or hanging out with friends, feel like monumental challenges. The teen might avoid socializing or engaging in activities they once enjoyed, feeling like their anxiety will take over and they won't be able to manage it in public.

If I make a mistake, everyone will judge me.

This fear can make the teen hyper-aware of their every action, making them self-conscious and paralyzed by the possibility of making mistakes. In class, they may avoid raising their hand or contributing, worrying about being judged for saying something wrong, which can lead to missed opportunities for learning and socializing.

My anxiety defines who I am.

This fear might lead the teen to avoid activities they once loved or refrain from trying new things because they believe their anxiety will always be an obstacle. They might withdraw from social interactions, thinking they’ll never be able to “fit in” or succeed because of their anxiety, which can make them feel trapped in their own limitations.
